CEO Bishoy Azmy on integrated delivery, technology-enabled execution, and why delivery certainty, not capacity alone, will define the next era of UAE construction
The UAE is redefining how future communities, infrastructure and urban environments are planned, built and delivered. As the country accelerates its next phase of economic diversification, smart infrastructure and sustainable development, the demands on the construction sector are changing quickly.
Scale is no longer the only measure of success. The next phase of development will depend on delivery certainty, technology, resilience and the ability to bring complex ecosystems to life with speed and precision.
To understand how the industry is evolving, Economy Middle East spoke with Bishoy Azmy, CEO of Innovo Group, on the future of living, the changing role of contractors, and how integrated, technology-enabled delivery models are reshaping the built environment.
The theme for our July issue is “The Future of Living.” From your vantage point, leading major developments across the region, how is this concept transforming the UAE’s construction landscape?
The future of living in the UAE is being shaped through integrated ecosystems that bring together mobility, infrastructure, sustainability, technology, public realm, social infrastructure and quality of life.
That is the direction the UAE has been moving toward for many years, and the ambition of the leadership has created one of the most dynamic development environments anywhere in the world. The scale is significant. The complexity behind that scale is what really matters.
We see this reality every day across our portfolio. Projects such as Nawayef East and West for Modon, which features the world’s largest man-made hills, or Ghaf Woods for Majid Al Futtaim, which is targeting LEED Gold certification and includes 30,000 trees, require new ways of thinking about delivery. The same applies to Saadiyat Lagoons for Aldar, where we are delivering a 900,000-square-meter wilderness environment.
These are highly complex projects. They require deeper integration between design, engineering, procurement, sustainability, construction and long-term asset thinking. To build future-ready communities, the delivery model behind them has to be equally future-ready.
This is where Innovo’s approach is different. We bring design, engineering, procurement, delivery and advanced technologies into one cohesive platform. The future of living will be shaped by vision and realized through execution.
We are seeing a massive drive toward technology and AI across all sectors. How is Innovo leveraging these tools to gain a competitive edge and redefine industry standards?
Technology is becoming one of the clearest dividing lines in construction. The industry is under pressure to deliver faster, with greater certainty, better transparency and tighter control over cost, quality and program. In that environment, technology is becoming a core operating advantage.
For Innovo, AI and advanced digital tools are helping improve predictability, visibility and decision-making across complex projects. They allow us to identify potential supply-chain bottlenecks earlier, optimize workforce deployment, improve site coordination and give clients a clearer view of progress and risk.
We are also backing this belief through direct ecosystem engagement. Through Innovo Ventures, we actively engage with more than 50 start-ups and manage a pipeline of over 1,000. We also hold strategic positions in funds such as Brick & Mortar Ventures and A/O Proptech.
The reason is simple. We believe the future of the industry has to be actively built, funded and integrated. Innovation has to move from the ecosystem into live project delivery. The companies that will lead the next phase of construction are the ones that can connect technology to real project outcomes.
Across more than 130 ongoing projects globally, we are using technology to create a more unified, data-driven operating model. The market will continue to consolidate. Capacity alone will not be the differentiator. Discipline, intelligence and execution certainty will be.
The global supply chain remains volatile, yet the UAE’s project pipeline is accelerating. How do you ensure Innovo remains insulated from these external shocks to deliver on time?
The volatility of the past few years has shown that traditional procurement models can be fragile. Building the next generation of infrastructure, communities and destinations requires operational resilience before a shock happens.
For Innovo, resilience comes from scale, integration and control. We have more than 17,000 people and a network spanning seven offices in six countries. Critical disciplines such as MEP and procurement are housed in-house, which gives us greater visibility and control across the project lifecycle.
When you are delivering projects such as The Alba by OMNIYAT, the 1.2-million-square-foot Six Senses Residences The Palm, or the St. Regis Residences in the Downtown Dubai Opera District, delivery certainty becomes essential. These projects cannot be managed through fragmented systems or reactive procurement.
Our integrated platform gives us the ability to respond faster when input costs fluctuate or supply lanes come under pressure. We use diversified supply routes, direct vendor relationships and centralized procurement and logistics capabilities built over many years.
This is a structural advantage. Integration is a discipline, and it has to be built over time. The companies that invest in that discipline are the ones best placed to deliver through uncertainty.
Looking ahead, with massive investments like the AED55 billion Abu Dhabi PPP pipeline and urban expansions, what is your ultimate ambition for Innovo within this new era of UAE development?
The UAE is one of the world’s most important testbeds for the future of construction. It brings together scale, ambition, capital, technology and complexity in a way very few markets can match.
My ambition for Innovo is to become the global benchmark for mastering that complexity.
The industry is moving away from traditional, transactional contractor-client relationships. The next phase will be defined by strategic partnerships, where delivery partners are expected to bring engineering depth, cost discipline, technology, resilience and a long-term understanding of asset value.
Innovo brings a dual perspective to that conversation. In addition to our construction capabilities, Innovo Real Estate Development manages a diverse portfolio of assets across the U.K., Canada, Egypt and the UAE. Acting as both developer and contractor gives us a deeper understanding of the full asset lifecycle, from concept and feasibility to delivery and long-term value creation.
Today, we work with more than 100 major clients globally. What they are looking for is delivery certainty, partnership and the ability to execute complex projects in a way that protects quality, program and value.
As the UAE continues to shape a new blueprint for modern living, Innovo’s role is to help turn that vision into reality. The future of living will be defined by the quality of the communities we build, the resilience of the infrastructure that supports them, and the intelligence of the systems used to deliver them.
